Automated
A sales rep will select
from a pull-down list the probability for every opportunity that s/he is working
on: 10%, 50% or 90%, for example. That, combined with Bookings for the time window, is sufficient for ERM™ to build a Forecast automatically, without
drawing one angry word from the rep or the rep’s manager.
The Forecast Report shows
MTD and QTD bookings
plus the opportunity totals and probability factors for the remainder of the chosen
start date to end date.
The Sales Manager can click
a mouse to forecast every sales rep in the Region, and a Sales VP can click to
make a Forecast for a whole Business Unit. The President clicks to see the entire Company Forecast.

Unified
Users with just a web browser put information into ERM’s unified
database, and there it stays for use and improvement by other users in the
enterprise. As sales reps raise or lower probabilities, the real-time Forecasts immediately become more accurate. As other employees use ERM to convert Quotes
into Orders and Invoices with a few clicks, the Forecasts get richer and even more meaningful. No wild guessing by anyone.

Every sales rep, when creating and updating an Opportunity (Project), clicks the Probability pull-down
menu. BScaler initializes this list with
50%; each company adds other percentages to their probabilities list, as
appropriate for their style of business.
Say a sales rep offers to provide a solution for the
contact’s new project and so creates the new Opportunity in ERM. At first, maybe the rep thinks
the likelihood of getting the sale is just 10%, so selects that from the
Probability menu.
After the contact sees the quote and tells the rep
that this is one of three (for example) best candidates for getting the order,
the rep boosts the Probability to 50%.
When the contact says the Purchase Order is on the
way, the rep might boost the probability to 90%. After an ERM user has the PO and books the order, ERM automatically sets the Probability to 100%. It has become a booking.
The probabilities contribute to the ERM Forecast
reports, which management can generate for any
time period. Reports have totals and
factors for Probabilities of 50% and higher, so decision-makers will know where
they stand for the month or quarter.
All of this quite accurate Forecast information came
about because the sales reps just clicked their way through ERM. The Forecasts are extracted from ERM data,
not the sales rep’s skin.
Forecasts by Part Are
Easy Too
By the time selling Opportunities
have a probability of 50% or higher, they have Quotes attached. This
means ERM can derive the parts requirements for those opportunities and
for all Orders and Backorders that a Forecast will include. Therefore, ERM makes Parts Forecasts, too. They include Inventory
Status, Lead Times and End of Life Dates, and you can drill down
from there to see which Quotes listed them.
