To help sellers work the right customers the right way, companies have begun to seek web-based front office products called Sales Force Automation (SFA) or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems. These promise much but, as they do not access “same database” information with the Back Office, they can deliver little.  An SFA system that automates only quotes, proposals, sales orders or forecasts is of little value.  Likewise, a CRM system that has no connection to a customer's history does not contribute much.

With ERM the front office shares the same database with back office disciplines such as inventory management and procurement, invoicing, payment, shipment, credit, vendor payments, and commissions. ERM’s Customer Relationship Management system displays for a sales rep the entire customer history to assure proposing the right products at the right discount, for the right amount of credit, all before generating a quote.

To save sellers’ time, ERM extracts the information to build an up to the minute sales and revenue forecast.

When quotes are properly completed and the order is right, the rest is simple—and a click or two completes it! When the appropriate ERM users click their approvals (e.g. credit and order configuration), ERM proceeds with generating the Sales and/or Service Orders. Now Back Office personnel immediately use the same data to expedite invoicing and shipping with the appropriate terms and backordering if necessary. ERM adjusts inventory amounts and makes any vendor Purchase Orders to keep the process going.  Your staff enters the receipt of vendor items and their invoices for ERM to keep track of payable amounts and, when the time comes, ERM prints the checks.

Nobody has to copy numbers from one inadequate program to the next, risking error and taking time.  Sales reps have quick and full access to their customer data at any time.  ERM prevents them from poaching accounts from peers without the Sales Manager taking action. Further, once a user has entered customer data, it stays. No worry that someone will slash and burn on the way to a competitor.
